About us

Bringing local dyslexia expertise together

We connect people in Hull and East Yorkshire with specialist dyslexia assessors and teachers.

Finding the right support can feel overwhelming. Families may not know where to begin. Schools may need specialist advice. Adults may want answers about their own learning.

Finding the right support can make a real difference to a person’s education, confidence and future.

Our purpose is simple: to help connect people with the specialist knowledge and support they need.

Our Founder’s Vision

Julia C H Smith

“As Founder of the HEY Dyslexia Association, and with over 20 years’ experience in the education, voluntary, and charity sectors, I am passionate about supporting people with dyslexia to feel happy, fulfil their potential and recognise their strengths. I established the association to make it easier for individuals, parents and schools to find local specialist support that meets individual needs, empowering them to make informed choices. I also hope to bring dyslexia professionals across the region together to share knowledge, learn from one another and promote best practice, helping to make a positive difference to the lives of individuals with dyslexia and their families.”

Our values

  • Open to everyone: we want people to feel welcome, listened to and better informed.
  • Specialist knowledge: we value the skill and experience of dyslexia assessors and teachers.
  • Working together: we connect professionals, families, schools and other organisations.
  • Good practice: we encourage clear information, informed choices and high professional standards.

How we check our members

Before a specialist joins, we ask for a copy of their Level 5 or Level 7 specialist dyslexia qualification. This shows they meet professional standards, and gives us evidence of it.

This is the one check we make. Safeguarding and DBS checks are the responsibility of each specialist, because you contact them directly. Please ask a specialist about these checks before you book.

About our directory

Our directory helps you find local specialist dyslexia assessors and teachers.

Each specialist is responsible for their own services and for what they say about their qualifications and experience.

Being listed is not a guarantee or an endorsement. Please check that a specialist’s services suit your needs.

We do not provide assessments, teaching or individual advice ourselves.
